The Use of an Implant Fixed Partial Denture as Abutment Teeth for Removable Partial Denture in Unilateral Edentulous Patient: A Cases Report

|
Rehabilitation of a partially edentulous patient mainly with a conventional removable partial denture is a challenge for both the clinician and the patient. There have been many reports indicating that treatment with a combination of implant and removable partial denture can provide better results. An implant can be used to improve the support, stability, and retention of a removable partial denture. These three aspects are lacking in a limited number of unilateral edentulous patients; in these cases, a stable removable prosthesis cannot be made because an abutment is only on one side of the arch with a long lever arm, which means a poor prognosis is expected. We use fixed implant-supported prostheses as survey crowns for the removable partial denture. About one year after initial loading, all implants were reevaluated. There were no screw loosening or periodontal problems, and minimal marginal bone loss was found around the implants from radiological examination. Using implants as abutments brings improvement in support and stability of dentures. These treatment options provided a stable outcome functionally, economically and psychologically.
